The Jerry Smith Town Center Plaza is a 14,000 square foot public gathering space at the corner of 232nd Street SW and 58th Avenue W, adjacent to the City Council Chambers and entrance to the new City Hall.
This gathering place is perfect for civic events, performances, a potential farmers market, and casual get-togethers.
The design includes public art, a water fountain, a stage next to the Council Chambers, terraced seating, benches, flagpole pavilion, and in-ground lighting. The fountain was supported by a generous donation from the Hazel Miller Foundation.
The plaza rounds out the Civic Campus with City Hall, the Police Station, the Fire Station and the Library, all next to Veterans Memorial Park and with planned access to future light rail service.
Project Financing
Funding for the plaza was not recommended by the City Hall Advisory Committee for the 2017 bond measure to finance the new City Hall. The $12.5 million voter-approved bond only included funding for the new City Hall and a Police Station addition. Therefore, the city used park impact fees and secured grants to create the Jerry Smith Town Center Plaza. It is named for the longtime civic leader and former mayor who passed in 2018.
