Summary of Benefits

Regular City of Mountlake Terrace employees are eligible to participate in an array of benefits programs. A newly hired, full-time regular employee will have access to the following benefits options:
  • Vacation leave at an accrual rate of eight hours per month (equivalent to 12 days of annual paid vacation)
  • 12 days of annual sick leave accrual
  • 11 paid holidays per year (including one personal or "floating" holiday)
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage effective the first of the following month
  • Group life insurance (term life policy with a value of three times an employee's annual wages)
  • Long-term disability insurance (income replacement protection of up to 60% of base wages)
  • Participation in the State of Washington PERS 2 or 3 retirement system
  • The opportunity to participate in a Section 125 flexible benefits plan
In lieu of Social Security participation, City of Mountlake Terrace employees participate in the Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT) program. MEBT is an Internal Revenue Code Section 401(a) defined contribution savings program into which employees make before-tax contributions at the rate of 6.2% of gross earnings. The City matches 80% (or 4.96% of gross salary) of a regular employee's contribution, subject to an employer-vesting schedule of 20% per year for each of the first five years of employment.
