[ARCHIVED] Open House on Town Center Plan Amendment

A community open house is planned for Wednesday, April 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Avenue W, to obtain input from residents and businesses on potential updates to the city’s Town Center Plan.

It has been ten years since the Town Center Subarea Plan was adopted. An evaluation of possible changes to the plan is one of the 2017 Comprehensive Plan amendment docket items. Consideration may be given to expanding the Town Center core, increases in height and density to implement the Landscape Conservation and Local Infrastructure Program (LCLIP), and additional incentives to encourage redevelopment. Ten years later seems a good time for the community to reflect on and assess what is working, what’s not and what the possibilities are.

The city and region have experienced many changes over the past ten years. These include more transit options (such as the Sound Transit Flyer Stop and pending light rail station at 236th Street SW), turnover of businesses in the Town Center (new and closed), a recession and recovery, and an interest in Mountlake Terrace as an attractive and affordable place to live and work.

A postcard advertising the open house will be mailed to city residents and businesses. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion about the future of the Town Center area.

The current Town Center Subarea Plan can be viewed or purchased at the Interim City Hall. The plan is available online at http://www.cityofmlt.com/DocumentCenter/View/750.
