[ARCHIVED] Fireworks, Music & Fun for July 3rd at Ballinger Park

July 3 Gunny Sack Race

The fourth consecutive Mountlake Terrace 3rd of July Stars & Stripes Celebration, sponsored by the Cheeseburger Babies Foundation, is planned for Wednesday, July 3rd from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Ballinger Park (23000 Lakeview Drive). The City of Mountlake Terrace, Community Transit and South County Fire provide support services and facilities for the event.

The celebration includes a variety of entertainment and hours of fun for all ages. The event kicks off at 3:00 p.m. with family fun and games, pony rides, water walking balls, bouncy houses, food vendors, face painting, carnival games and booths from local businesses.

The stage area includes live music, a DJ, pie eating contest, gunny sack races, and introductions of local sponsors and officials. The evening’s grand finale includes two fireworks shows that will light up the skies with fabulous fireworks that begin at about 10:00 p.m. over Lake Ballinger.

Senior Center restrooms will be open for the handicapped and portable toilets will be on site. Parking will be available at the former Creekside Church parking lot (7011 226th Place SW), and the Community Transit Park and Ride lot (6001 236th Street SW) with shuttle service provided by Honor Care Adult Family Home and Mountlake Terrace Plaza.

Although personal fireworks are illegal in the city, the organization obtained a special events permit from the city to allow a fireworks display with a professional pyrotechnics company. The boat launch area will be closed. The spectator viewing area will be on the southeast hillside within the park and south of the Mountlake Terrace Senior/Community Center (Ballinger Clubhouse).

Strong attendance is expected so please plan ahead and be prepared for any weather conditions, low lighting conditions upon exit, and shuttle waiting time. Bring chairs and/or blankets to sit on. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area as there may be congestion.

Cheeseburger Babies Foundation, the charitable arm of Red Onion Cafe and Seafood Bar, sponsors the event with many community partners. Over $15,000 has been raised from local area businesses.

The foundation thanks its supporters including Red Onion Cafe and Seafood Bar, Double DD Meats, Sierra Construction Company, Lake Union Partners, Fischer Plumbing, Landsverk Quality Homes, Haider Construction, Gutter King, Rogers Market Redevelopment Group, HomeStreet Bank, Ace Hardware, Sorelli Pizza, Grand Pere Bakery, Sprout Birth Center, Calvary Fellowship, South County Fire Fighter Foundation, U.S. Army, Studio 6 Hotel, Creekside Church, MLTNEWS, Emerald City Harley Davidson, Mountlake Terrace Plaza, North Queens Drill Team, and Honor Care Adult Family Home.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact event sponsor Seaun Richards at (425) 218-5996.
