Arts Advisory Commission

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission, established by city ordinance in 1971, consists of seven volunteer members appointed by the City Council. They work to promote and sponsor activities and events that enhance the cultural atmosphere of the community. The Commission advises the City Council regarding site selection, acquisition and development of facilities and 1% For Art.

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission values cultural arts as vital to the human spirit, a means to connect a diverse community, and essential to the health and vitality of our city.

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission mission is to nurture, support and promote the cultural arts as a vital element of our community’s quality of life, economic viability and vibrant community identity.

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission goals are to:

  • Collaborate with artists, business, government, education, residents and guests.
  • Create opportunities for artists including visual, performing and literary arts.
  • Encourage public and private partnerships to provide funding.
  • Position cultural arts as community and economic building blocks.
  • Engage our community to educate, inform, inspire.
  • Promote understanding of diverse cultures, ages and abilities.

The Arts Advisory Commission and the Friends of the Arts sponsor the Arts of the Terrace Juried Art Show held each fall. The Arts Advisory Commission activities include coordinating and promoting monthly art exhibits at the Mountlake Terrace Library and maintaining the inventory and documentation of the city’s public art collection.

They are currently working on the selection process for public artwork for the new Fire Station funded by the 1% for Arts program. They are also reviewing Request for Qualifications submissions for proposals to conduct an Arts and Cultural Strategic Plan.
