In
January of 2005, the City of Mountlake Terrace entered into
an Interlocal Agreement with Snohomish
County Fire District No. 1 (SCFD1) to provide
Fire and Emergency Medical Services to our City. Under
the terms of the Agreement, SCFD1 will staff the City's two
fire stations.
Fire Station #18 is located on the corner of
228th St. S.W. and 39th Ave. W. and Fire Station #19 is located
near the intersection of 232nd St. S.W. and 58th Ave. W. In
April 2006, Fire Station #19 was relocated to a newly
constructed facility located just north of the police station
and west of City Hall, still near the intersection of 232nd
St. S.W. and 58th Ave. W.
Each
station is staffed 24 hours per day with one Fire Captain,
one Fire- fighter/Paramedic, and one Firefighter/ Emergency
Medical Technician. The Fire Chief of SCFD1 is designated
as the City's Fire Chief and the District also provides the
City with a designated Fire Marshal.
Special
trained teams of firefighters also respond to hazardous materials
incidents and technical rescue calls. Approximately 70% of
the department calls for service are for medical aid. See
the 2006 Annual Report for additional information.
The Fire Department focuses on public education in an effort to prevent
fires and injuries. CPR/first aid classes, low-cost bicycle
helmets, child car-seat clinics, disaster preparedness training
and other programs are offered.
