Why do we need a Civic Center?

The city is currently renting space in an interim City Hall on 220th Street. The location is not centrally located and there is no funding for this facility after 2014. The city-owned property is vacant and not accessible to the public.

There is also a need for community amenities such as a senior/community center, public meeting rooms, gathering place, and a rental facility. The Police Department offices would be incorporated into the Civic Center building, as they have outgrown their current Police Station.

A remodel and expansion of the current Police Station will help meet our space demands. The Police Department now provides services that did not exist when the Police Station was built including animal control, electronic home monitoring, crime prevention, code enforcement, domestic violence personnel, SWAT, canine assistance, and community service programs. Safety improvements, such as secure prisoner transport areas, are also an important part of the project.

Where is the Civic Center?

The Civic Center is located at 232nd and 58th Avenue West, the site of the original City Hall and current location of the Library, Police and Fire Stations.
