Positive Community Satisfaction Survey Reported to Council
February 3, 2012 — The 2011 Community Satisfaction Survey results, reported to the City Council at their February 2 work/study session, were overwhelmingly positive. The results show that residents are satisfied with the delivery and quality of most of the community's programs and services. It also shows that respondents approve of the direction the City Council is heading and that Mountlake Terrace performs very well compared to other cities.

Mountlake Terrace Civic Center Project Update
February 3, 2012 — A variety of issues including financing options, costs and timing for the Civic Center Project were discussed at City Council's February 2 work/study session.

City Council Reviews Community Goals
February 2, 2012 — The City Council recently reviewed its adopted goals and work plan for 2010-2012 and concluded that significant progress has been made in moving the city forward in 2011. Council's goals and accompanying work plan focus on protecting the city's finances, economic development, capital infrastructure needs, and community outreach.

Council to Decide on Renewing Medical Cannabis Moratorium
January 26, 2012 — A public hearing on renewal of the medical cannabis moratorium will be held by the City Council on February 6 at 7:00 pm, in the Interim City Hall, 6100 219th Street SW, 2nd floor.

Coffee with the City February 8, 6 pm

January 26, 2012 — Citizens, business owners and others from the community are invited to join city officials for a cup of coffee and hear first-hand what's happening in the city. This casual event will be held on Wednesday, February 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Recreation Pavilion Jungle Room, 5303 228th Street SW.

"Citizens Academy" Begins April 12
Deadline March 30 to Apply for Police Citizens Academy

January 25, 2012 — The City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department is hosting the Police Citizens Academy on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Avenue West. The 12-week program begins April 12 and runs through June 28 concluding with a graduation reception for all participants and their families. The deadline to apply for the Police Citizens Academy is 5 p.m. on March 30. Space is limited to the first 30 people accepted, so prompt registration is recommended.

Janie Olsen Exhibit Opens February 2
January 20, 2012 — The Mountlake Terrace Arts Advisory Commission presents the Janie Olsen Exhibit at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Avenue West. The exhibit features acrylic paintings by local artist Janie Olsen whose paintings can be whimsical or mystical at times.

City Council Sets Special Meeting to Discuss Future Direction
January 20, 2012 — The Mountlake Terrace City Council will hold a special work session/retreat on Saturday, March 3 to establish its goals and objectives for  2013-2014 and reaffirm key policy objectives for 2012. The special meeting will be held at the Interim City Hall, 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 220.

2012 Lodging Tax Advisory Committee Appointed
January 12, 2012 — At their January 3 meeting, the City Council appointed members to the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee including Ayesha Sheikh, Studio 6 Hotel General Manager, Laura Peckinpaugh, Studio 6 Hotel Operations Manager, Cheryal Heppner, member of Tour de Terrace Organization, and Carol McMahan, member of Friends of the Arts. The Committee is responsible for reviewing requests and making recommendations for allocating $23,500 in Lodging Tax Funds to help fund tourism related events and programs in 2012.

Lodging Tax Grants Available
January 6, 2012 — $23,500 in lodging tax funds is available to qualified applicants for projects and events that promote tourism in 2012. Lodging tax or tourism promotion funds come from the taxes collected from the Studio 6 Hotel located in Mountlake Terrace. The city's Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will review applications and make a recommendation to the City Council based upon certain criteria.

Mountlake Terrace Recruiting for Boards and Commissions
January 6, 2012 — The city is recruiting citizens to serve on its Boards and Commissions to help organize events, inform and advise the City Council, and get involved in the community.

Keep Your Pet Safe – Renew Their License
Mountlake Terrace Pet Licenses Expire on Dec. 31

December 6, 2011 — The City of Mountlake Terrace is reminding pet owners that annual licenses expire on December 31, 2011. All pet owners need to come to the Police Department, 5906 232nd Street SW, to get their new reusable license tags. A pet license is the best way to ensure the safe return of a lost pet.

Hall Creek Culvert Removal and Sewer Replacement Update
October 26, 2011 — The Hall Creek Culvert Removal and Ballinger Lake Golf Course Sewer Replacement Project provides for reestablishing a natural stream in place of culverts, constructing a pedestrian bridge over the creek, routing a water main and other utilities under the creek, and reconstructing the adjacent end of 230th Street SW.

Earth Day Clean Up

In recognition of Earth Day, the City Council invites you to attend the Annual Earth Day Clean Up from 9am to 1pm. Individuals, families and organizations are welcome to help spruce up our city parks and facilities. Please meet at the Terrace Park School Parking lot at 9am for instructions and assignments. We ask that groups please call Parks and Facilities Superintendent Ken Courtmanch at (425) 776-1811 in advance, so we can plan accordingly. Once you have worked up an appetite, your City Council will fire up the grill and treat you to a barbecue lunch in appreciation of your service. Come on out and meet your neighbors, the City Council, and staff.

National Night Out

Tree Lighting Ceremony
Friday, December 7, 6:30 pm, Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Avenue West
The Annual Mountlake Terrace Tree Lighting Ceremony features music, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Volunteers serve cocoa and cookies while children carol. The “tree” which can be seen from miles around, is a frame constructed with lights and sits atop the city’s water tower. The city’s police, public works, and recreation/parks departments as well as Snohomish County Fire District 1 put on this festive event. Don’t forget to dress warm and wear boots if the weather is wet.
