Leader in Ethnic Studies to Address Diversity Commission

Guest speaker Alekzandr Wray

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission will hear from guest speaker Alekzandr Wray at its meeting on Wednesday, April 20.

Wray is the Ethnic Studies Program Manager for Seattle Public Schools and has been an educator since 2011. He graduated from Western Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in Law, Diversity, and Justice. He also earned a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Portland.

Wray served as an ethnic studies and social studies teacher at Garfield High School in Seattle from 2017-2021.

“He believes that liberation should be at the heart of the educational experiences and is working with his team to create systems to ensure that this is a reality within Seattle Public Schools,” according to a prepared statement.

The Mountlake Terrace Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom on the third Wednesday of each month. Its mission is promoting and embracing diversity through action, education and guidance. The group seeks to foster an understanding that includes, accepts, respects and appreciates everyone in our community.
