[ARCHIVED] Mountlake Terrace Seeks Individuals for Pro/Con Statement Committees

The Mountlake Terrace City Council is seeking interested citizens to serve on the Pro and Con Statement Committees to prepare written arguments for the Voters’ Pamphlet supporting and opposing approval of Proposition No. 1 on the August 2, 2016 primary election ballot.

The City Council adopted an ordinance at its May 2 meeting that seeks voter approval for a levy lid lift beginning in 2017 to fund payments for Interim City Hall rent and provide ongoing funding of recreation and parks.

If approved, the ballot measure would add $0.44 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to property taxes for four years, after which it would drop to $0.25. Of that amount, $0.19 would pay for rent of Interim City Hall, and $0.25 would pay for Recreation and Parks costs. The Interim City Hall rent portion ($0.19) would go away after four years, during which time the community can design, approve and construct a new City Hall. The remaining $0.25 would remain in place in the future to provide a dedicated funding source for recreation and parks.

Individuals interested in serving in this capacity must submit their name, address and telephone number to Virginia Olsen, City Clerk and Community Relations Director. This information must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 6, 2016 at this address or email:

Virginia Olsen, City Clerk/Community Relations Director
6100 219th Street, Suite 200

The City Council will consider those citizens who express interest in serving on the Pro and Con Statement Committees and make appointments at their May 12 work/study session.

Following appointment, the Pro and Con Statement Committee member names will be submitted to Snohomish County Elections Office on May 13. The Committee members must submit their Pro and Con statements for the Voter Pamphlets to Snohomish County Elections by May 24, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. and rebuttal statements by May 27, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
